Printed Mugs with Your Company Name

By Tina Rinaudo

The use of printed mugs has grown enormously in the current scenario. Printed mugs are one product that has been tried and tested by one and all for a lot of reasons. Their popularity as a promotional product is on cloud nine. Printed mugs are the safest bet by far when it comes to creating brand awareness. They can prove to be a valuable business tool for your company if used in the right fashion. Custom mugs are a very cost effective way of endorsing your brand name and opening your organisation to new markets. With the wide reach and exposure that they enjoy there are absolutely no qualms in promotional mugs being the best promotional product.

The whole idea of using printed mugs to endorse your brand would fall flat if they do not carry your company name. Well the same holds true for any other promotional product in the business. The main motive behind using custom mugs is generating brand awareness and that can only be possible of the mug carries your company name and logo along with other relevant details. A printed mug, no matter how beautiful it may be has no relevance if it does not carry your company name. Think of distributing coffee mugs that are very high on design and very attractive but do not carry the name of your company. How in the world can one come to know that the mug was given by your company?

One might argue that the recipient would obviously know as to who gave him the mug. Agreed but partially, the immediate recipient would obviously know about the giver of the mug but soon in some time that would be forgotten because it would be a plain mug with the condition of anonymity. Also others around the recipient would never come to know that the mug was offered by your organisation. The bottom line here is that an anonymous mug that does not carry the name of your company holds zero relevance to you. Forget about enticing new customers you won't even be able to reach your existing ones properly.

It is very important that the promotional mug you choose no matter how it is carries the name of your company. Even the most beautiful printed mugs have no meaning if they are not embellished with the company name. And on the other hand even a simple china mug well imprinted with your company name can take your brand name far and wide. Your company name should be well put on the personalised mug so that it stands out and speaks for itself. For further details please visit online stores.

Tips To Find the Right Printed Mugs

By Tina Rinaudo

Printed mugs are a great idea to endorse your brand name and get your business upfront with your clients. They make for one of the best advertising vehicle and marketing tool that you can offer to your business. They are not only cost effective but also enjoy wide reach and exposure and can take your brand name far off. Printed mugs are one of the best business tools that can get your brand name going. Available in an extensive variety these personalised mugs offer numerous options to the user to suit one's niche requirements. Printed mugs might be a safe bet for all sorts of promotional requirements but however there is a word of caution. There are certain things that need to be kept in mind while choosing the right personalised mug for your clients.

Quality makes for the prime consideration while choosing a printed mug. In fact for that matter quality is very important when it comes to any promotional product for obvious reasons. After all you would not like to gift your clients something that makes its way to the dump yard in a very little time span. If the custom mug that you choose to give to your clients give away the very first day then its not only the investment that you have made in the customised mug that is at stake but also at stake is your reputation. When you choose to give your clients low quality mugs it reflects the image of your organisation as an irresponsible one. Your clients might just think of you as an organisation that offers low quality and cheap products.

Another factor that comes very next to quality in the priority list is the tastes and preferences of your target audience. If you want these printed mugs to serve you right it is important that these mugs are used by the recipient. For your customers to use these customised mugs it is quintessential that they match with their tastes and preferences. If you cater to a clientele that is more on the sophisticated side then in that case simple china mugs are a strict no-no. Instead you should opt for something classier like a travel mug or those with a metallic finish. For the not so high end audience a simple mug with a little bit of extra on the design quotient would solve the purpose.

A factor that needs to be considered irrespective of the audience you cater to i.e. the design. The design of the printed mug that you choose should be such that it plays up your brand name rather than subdues it. Too much of a play of the design element could take away the attention from your message. To find more on printed mugs and promotional mugs simply log on to www.yesgifts.co.uk.

Taxy Advertising Metrics

By Sam Miller

Taxy advertising metrics are used to assess and evaluate the performance and efficacy of a marketing campaign using the common public transportation as media.

Advertising has positive and negative repercussions. Despite the negative aspects of advertising, advertisers and companies still employ different advertising tools to generate leads and revenues and to improve brand awareness.

Advertisers are always on the look out for innovative approaches in sending messages to customers and potential buyers. Aside from the traditional advertising techniques, companies and marketers employ different marketing tools, regardless of their viability. Experimenting techniques to expose and extend marketing messages is perhaps a constant aspect of advertising. Companies and advertisers may have yet to determine to make a repeat on the certain advertising campaign when there is a proper report and information of the effectiveness and efficiency of the marketing technique. To come up with particular solutions in employing marketing techniques, it is important to measure the performance of a certain marketing campaign.

Taxy or taxi advertising is part of the outdoor marketing campaign. Similar to other advertising campaigns that use transportation in bringing messages to potential markets, this kind of advertising technique must be planned and assessed. Cost is often involved in every marketing campaign. It is only appropriate to make budgets and to record actual cost as indicators of performance measure in carrying out the advertising campaign.

Why taxi advertising?

The innovative approach in advertising has not spared modes of transportation, such as trains, buses, and taxis in converting them into marketing media. The taxi, being a constant component on the road in every hour, has been deemed a feasible tool for placing promotional graphics and materials. This marketing campaign has been immensely popular in urban cities around the world, although it is heavily employed in the United States, as well as in European cities.

Advocating this kind of advertising campaign may seem an issue. But if you think about it, the taxi being a popular mode of public transportation, is a feasible approach for advertising. The visibility of ads placed inside or on the chassis of the public vehicle is a factor in making it an advertising medium. Not only passengers can view the ads placed on the taxis , but also passers-by, tourists, and individuals who are constantly on the road.

But the question is, can the effectiveness of taxi advertising be accurately measured?

Anybody can see the ads placed on the taxi or displayed inside the vehicle. Because of the random placement of ads, advertisers cannot determine well the number of prospects that respond to the marketing materials. Poor targeting, similar to other outdoor advertising, is a characteristic of taxi advertising. The volume of response is nil; so is the number of persons responding to the ad message.

To assess the performance of taxi advertising, it is important to conduct extensive research of the findings using this advertising medium. Surveys can be conducted, however, the accuracy of the result cannot be fully determined.

To practically measure the effectiveness of the advertising campaign, it is important to identify indicators that have direct links to the existence and implementation of the marketing technique.

Taxy advertising metrics may include budget, cost, revenues, and returns for determining how well the advertising works in increasing awareness and sales or revenue generation.

Picture Stamps, A Great Way To Show Off Your Business

By Diane Palmer

Trying to organize your office for your home business can be quite a task. Some people just don't bother, and spread everything around the kitchen table, or work out of their car.

I am sure you have seen those cars, they are the ones with everything jammed down by the windshield, fading in the sun, and the driver talking on a cell phone, while trying to manouver through traffic.

I finally organized a nice spot in my house, and then I realized just how much time I spend at the post office. I finally decided to download my postage and it has saved me hours.

Trying to operate your business, no matter what it is, is your passion, but it doesn't hurt every so often, to take a step back, smell the roses, and check out the latest in technology, and see if any of it will be of use to you and your business.

When I took that step back, I realized how much time I was wasting with getting postage, or running out of postage for my online business. When checking out the latest technologies out there, I also discovered a great affordable way to advertise. You can now get picture stamps. You simply take a picture with your digital camera and upload to a site, that sends you real postage stamps.

If you are an artist, you can have a picture of one of your pieces right on your envelope for all to see. They make the stamps big enough to see, and this is a great way to show off your work. You could do this with jewelry, needlework, art, the list is endless.

If you have a mailing list of customers, what better way to show off your work, than with custom stamps. Sometimes you just have to step back, and take a look at how you are running things, and you may just get one of those ahaha moments!

An Introduction to Soy Inks

By Shiji Shijina

Soy inks are a kind of printing ink made from soy beans, which are considered to be better than petroleum based inks. The best part of soy ink is that they are very much eco-friendly and they are available in bright colors. When using soy inks while printing, it helps to improve the life span of the printers. Soy inks are adored by both environmental protection groups and animal rights groups because when soy inks are used for printing, the paper becomes very easy to recycle, hence causes lesser pollution. Soy ink is more economic in long run, therefore it is considered to be a boon for those who print papers in large quantities. Soy inks are proved to have a greater rub resistance; this is very important for newspaper readers. Soy inks continue to maintain its lithographic stability all the way through out the entire print job process.

Vinegar ink, which is also called soy tinta is a kind of non-food soya. This is very environmentally friendly and healthier to use. Vinegar ink has a safer approach to printing which takes only a very small amount of energy to print. In fact, if you look at the cultivation of soybeans, it uses up only 0.5 percent of the total energy that is necessary to produce this eco-friendly ink. Most of these soy crops don't require much irrigation, consumes limited fixed nutrients and they leave fewer agricultural residues when compared other kinds of crops. Soy inks also have lesser levels of Volatile Organic Compounds that will help to reduce air pollution by reducing the toxic emissions.

If you look at the late 1970s, the Newspaper Association of America was searching for different ways to make inks, instead of using the standard petroleum based inks. Due to the rising prices for petroleum products and quarrels with OPEC countries, these were reasons they actually wanted to find a more reliable and also cost efficient methods to print. After undergoing numerous tests for more than 2,000 different kinds of vegetable oil formulations, the researchers for the Newspaper Association of America came up with the answer of using soy bean oil. In the year 1987, soy beans were tested by the Gazette from Iowa, USA in a practically printing run test. This test was very successful and hence soy inks became more and more popular.

Now, soy inks are been used by more than 95 percent of United States' daily newspaper printers, which circulates more than fifteen hundred copies per run. In addition to this about one quarter of the commercial printers in United States of America operate using soy inks. The victory of soy inks was judged as it is sufficient enough to justify its closing in 2005 of the agency promoting its use, the National Soy Ink Information Center.

How To Cross Sell Effectively

By Kaitlyn C Miller

One way of increasing your sales and profits is to offer other related product or service. Other than the main item you're selling, you can also cross-sell or offer a product or service to your customer and prospects that is linked to the benefits of the product your customer is already buying from you.

Take for example when you eat at a restaurant or even a fast food chain. Isn't it that the one who takes your order also offers you other products they sell such as a side salad or a beef pie to go with your chicken burger? Or when you buy a pair of shoes, the sales agent would also suggest a nice pair of socks to go with it.

It's the same thing with cross selling. You offer other related products with the objective of convincing your clients to shell out a little more of their money to increase your sales. And this is a worthwhile tool to use if you want to boost your profits.

According to recent studies, many buyers would actually appreciate being informed of additional items or services that would help them satisfy more of their needs. In fact, your customers recognize the value you put in your business as well as in the kind of customer service you offer when you care enough to meet and satisfy their needs and wants.

But when you cross sell, first and foremost, you need to consider that what you have to offer must be related to the product your customers are buying. In your advertising flyers for example, if you have a list of long sleeved shirts for corporate attire, it would certainly be fitting for you to also offer a tie or a cuff link perhaps. This means that your additional suggestion should be relevant to what you have already offered. Remember that your customers would only be interested if they see the value of your extra merchandise as something that would enhance their experience with the product they bought from you.

Another way of being successful in cross selling your products is to become an expert or have a professional in your midst to recommend your other items. Often, name dropping and testimonials can go a long way in getting your customers interested in what you have to offer.

And if you want to get the technique moving smoothly, then you better have staffs and employees who know how to cross sell. It all boils down to the principle that cross selling is all about giving more enhanced service rather than to sell more stuff in your color flyers.

The key to remember is that cross selling is all about satisfying your customers' needs and wants. Instead of pushing them to buy products or avail of other services in your flyer printing ad, you might consider encouraging them with the benefits of your additional items to enhance your product's value. When they see your additional product's worth, they would definitely be asking for more items in your advertising flyers' list.

Effective And Efficient Hang Tag - Swing Ticket

By Raymond So So

With the emerging fashion sense effecting the social trends, even the entire packaging of a product has become an important aspect in the resultant selling of the product. Thus even the labelling of a product has become a key selling point. Today, the hang tag and swing ticket markets have become more ambitious with the availability of more materials, designs and more brands surfacing. So to kick- start one's product in the market, a brilliant and attractive label becomes a prime requisite.

Therefore, it becomes mandatory for all new entrepreneurs to know the importance of good hang tags and swing tickets for their products, as:

The hang tags and swing tickets introduce the product to buyers.

A good hang tag or a good swing ticket serves a vital role, as it provides information on the brand name, manufacturer details, product maintenance guidelines and image. A detailed tag and swing ticket with vital information can actually push passers by to buy the product. Moreover, a technically sound and aesthetically upbeat tag can further the reputation of the product and the brand.

On the contrary, a badly manufactured hang tag or swing ticket will stick out like a sore thumb, no matter how fancy or sleek the product may be.

Efficient Production Methods and Effective Material Selection

These hang tags and swing tickets are also known as suspended ticket, suspended label, hanging tag, hanging label, swing tag, swinging tag, swinging label and swinging ticket. Moreover, the raw material used becomes vital as it can speak volumes on the product and its impact on the potential buyer. Thus a very well researched and careful selection of raw material for making tags and swing tickets becomes a must. A producer must keep this in mind that, a tag has to be as exclusive as the product itself.

The options available in the raw materials for making hang tag and swing tags are:
1. Paper tags
2. Pvc
3. Pu
4. Fabric tags

To succeed in today's market, all new entrepreneurs must understand the importance of good tags and swing tickets for their products. The old bygone days are over, when just a piece of paper attached to the product was enough to start off in the market. But today a buyer has to be wooed into buying a merchandise. Moreover, a good hang tag swing ticket emits a sense of assurance and reliability towards the product.

These barring Hang tags and swing tickets, nowadays are used on a varied range of products like Badge, Bag and box, Belt, Button, Bra-strap, Card, Cord and piping, Fastener, Fashion jewelry, Film, Glasses strap, Key chain, Lanyard, Label, Mobile phone accessories, Patch, Packaging paper, Seal, Stickers, Tag, Tape, Transfer, Trims, Zipper pull and many such miscellaneous items. Thus a hang tag or a swing tag, should be one of the on-top-of-the-list items that a manufacturer must carefully select and introduce with his product. As, a unique and a fine tailored tag can actually help the product reach a wider audience.

Digital Signage - Metrics, Human Nature Remain Final Obstacles to Success

By David Little

A new iSuppli report finds two significant obstacles remain before digital signage advertising can takes its place among other bona fide media buys by advertisers and ad agencies: a lack of variable audience measurement techniques, and a quandary on the part of ad agencies about how to get paid for placing digital signage ads.

The report, "Digital Signage Ecosystem Report," bySanju Khatri, principal analyst for signage and professional displays for iSuppli, outlines the opportunities for digital signage networks as well as the challenges that must be transcended before they realize their potential.

In a press release promoting the study, iSuppli identifies the problems and how they are related. According to the research company, "advertising agencies are very comfortable in the traditional arena of mass media and print advertising, and are not compelled enough to insert digital signage into the plans of their clients. More importantly, these agencies don't necessarily know what their commission will be with digital signage."

iSuppli goes on to explain that without an effective way to determine the number of consumers being reached by digital signage networks there is "no effective means" to show advertisers that the dollars they are spending on the medium are reaping a quantifiable reward. In other words, determining the return an advertiser can expect from an investment in advertising via digital signage networks is currently impossible. This lack of a way to measure ROI impedes the growth of the medium.

According to iSuppli, those participating in the market have begun partnering with organizations like Nielson, Arbitron and POPAI to develop metrics to make determining ROI doable. However, there seems to be little agreement about what exactly must be measured.

While the lack of audience metrics and the difficulty ad agencies have in determining how to get paid shouldn't be underestimated, there seems to be an overarching issue at play here -one that if addressed could reshape the conversation. Specifically, the entire notion of jamming the digital signage ad network medium into the box used to define and sell other media -in particular television- seems a bit misguided and stifling.

Granted, there is an incredible temptation to lump TV and digital signage together. After all, on the face of it -literally- they look identical. But the differences quickly become apparent when you get past their physicality and begin to consider much less superficial issues, such as how an audience consumes messages each conveys, the types of information, entertainment and commercials each display, where each physically resides and how much time viewers spend with each.

Simply attempting to count noses in an effort to support an ROI model built on the 60-plus year history of commercial television, seems to miss the point. Digital signage advertising networks are a new, different medium. They deserve their own unique formulas for determining ROI.

One component of that equation has to be propensity of a digital signage ad network "viewer" to actually buy something. Isn't a smaller audience with dollars in its hands and a desire to buy something in the very near term more valuable to advertisers than home after home of passive TV viewers who increasingly are skipping through their commercials with a remote control and a DVR?

In terms of the comfort level of ad agencies when it comes digital signage ad networks, who cares? Look at what Google has done in a matter of a few short years to ad buys. Single-handedly Google may have done more to call into question advertising business as usual than anything that's happened in recent memory.

Perhaps decisions about ads on digital signage networks would be better left to corporate marketing folks with expertise in point-of-purchase promotional displays. Certainly, that business resource has vast experience in determining the ROI of promotional messaging at the point of purchase when compared to an agency concerned about television.

To a certain degree, digital signage ad networks may have themselves to blame for these hurdles. Selling something new is often difficult, so it's understandable that there's a powerful temptation to draw analogies with the familiar when making their pitch to agencies. When it comes to digital signage and advertising agencies, the familiar is naturally television. To extract itself from that limiting, stifling box will require digital signage advertising networks to do much more than address metrics and commissions. It will require taking control of defining the medium as it's own, distinct entity and value.

Have You Overlooked this Sales-Advertising Technique for Your Online Business?

By Bruce A. Tucker

The late 90's were a time when the Internet was really taking off and the beginnings of how we view it today. No more so on the forefront of that explosion was retailer Amazon. They pioneered many of the things you still see online. They basically started online purchasing with secure connections (although others will lay claim to this as well).

The success of Amazon was so great (even though they were working in the red), that Jeff Bezos was named CEO of the year. It truly was a great accomplishment. Websites popped up everywhere wanting to be the next Amazon and to be that successful in the virtual world.

As wonderful as the accomplishments by Amazon were at the time, let us not forget the valuable lesson that they did teach us. What they taught us was and still is one of their biggest selling points, is the fact as to how they started the affiliate program. An affiliate program is the means by which others sell your products for you on their websites or blogs and in return when there is a sale that comes through their site, they receive a commission on it. That translates into free advertising until there is a sale. It was very simple, yet very ingenious.

Amazon might have pioneered this technique but it does not mean you can not use it for your own online business. In fact, if you do not have an affiliate program set up, you should get one going as soon as possible. It acts as your advertising without having to pay for it until there is an actual sale.

In order to have your own affiliate program you can either join one of the many automated ones out there now or start your own. You can find them by doing a search on the words 'affiliate program'. For your own you will need some programming skills. If that is above your expertise, you can either find a developer to implement it for you or refer back to the first idea.

Once you have your affiliate program enabled, you need to get the word out there about it. Start with posting a link on your home page to an area where visitors can register for your affiliate program. The next step is to start advertising your program. There are a variety of tools and websites out there, ours included, where you can advertise your affiliate program for next to nothing.

As you can see an affiliate program is a great way to get advertising from others without having to pay for it up front. If done properly, as was in the case with Amazon, you may be able to cut that advertising budget to almost zero.

So there you have it. An affiliate program is a great idea for your online business. Get your program started today, and you could soon see an increase in sales and revenue.

Build Awareness of Your Logo and Be An Eco-Friendly Business

By Chris Ballenden

Whether your logo consists of words, pictures or both, it is an instantly recognisable part of your business. It has the power to evoke positive feelings in previous clients, and perhaps even curiosity in people who could use your services in the future.

So just imagine being able to put your business logo in front of your clients on a daily basis. What's more, this form of advertising has the potential to last an extremely long time, promoting your business for years to come for one initial price.

If that wasn't enough, you can also promote your business as an eco-friendly company that puts the environment's needs first, and makes a conscious effort not to add to the already overworked landfills.

You can use your company logo in plenty of creative ways, but for a long lasting promotion that has real value you should put your logo on items which tend to be kept and used again and again - such as tote bags, for example.

A tote bag is indispensable for many people, and has a variety of uses - from taking it to the beach on holiday, to carrying the shopping home. It's a fantastic item to have handy as it folds up conveniently and tucks away when not in use.

All in all it's a great item to have your logo and business name on. Every time the bag comes out to be used, there is your logo - ready to promote your business in a positive and dynamic way.

Promote Your Business The Creative Way with Canvas Printing

By Chris Broad

Awareness is an integral part of our daily lives now, with more and more people communicating across the globe through speedy communication methods. As a result, advertising and promotion has also become a part and parcel of our lives where someone or the other is forever spreading awareness about a new product, service or idea. We have realized long back that it does not help to simply have a great product unless the target audience is made aware of it. However, the large number of advertisements being forced on the audience through the electronic media at times takes a toll on the public and many a times, your message or communication may simply get lost in the crowd. It is therefore necessary that an advertiser or promoter discovers new and innovative mediums to creatively promote his thought, service or product. Canvas printing is hence, one of the most preferred methods of creative communication in such scenarios.

Canvas printing is a two way process that provides the audience with a fresh form of communication and the artist or creator a suitable platform to display his full creative potential. Each and every message can be creatively different from each other, allowing the creator a free hand in putting his thoughts on canvas through the medium of canvas printing. The medium has the potential to grab the attention of the masses wherever it has been placed and it is therefore, usually used in venues of mass gathering like a trade fair, exhibition or even malls and theaters.

The artistes who create the canvas printing have the double benefit of not just giving vent to their creative thought process on a physical medium by combining it with the right technology but also earn a decent profit through this medium. It is therefore, also a preferred medium to pass on social messages and awareness about various social causes as it spreads the word without appearing too commercial. So, if you feel that the market has been flooded with products and services in the same category as your product offering, then you can definitely get an advantage by highlighting the differentiation through innovative methods of promotion like the canvas, posters and banners. It will instantly help you connect with the target audience as they are bound to notice this different and creative method of promotion in a market filled with regular advertisements and promotions.

However, if you have decided to opt for the unique promotional medium of canvas printing then you need to select the dealer and creator with care involving an in-depth market research. The artist has an important role to play as it is his creativity that will help translate the message into an effective form of communication. Also, there are many dealers who offer the best mediums of promotions at reasonable rates but you need to select the best for yourself after sufficient market research in order to get the best deals and competitive rates. So get the best vendor, artiste and copy person and make effective advertising the strength of your business.

Advertising Your Pizza Shop

By Jessica Ackerman

For many small pizza shops and restaurants, success or failure can be determined by one crucial and often overlooked element: advertising. Proper advertising can push you to the top of your game. Lack of advertising can cause even the best efforts to come up short.

Of course, advertising alone isn't going to make yours the most successful shop in town. You still need to have all of the other important factors such as great food, fabulous customer service and a clean, comfortable shop in a good location. If you have those and then add appropriate advertising, your chances for success are good.

Here are two of the main ways to advertise your business.

Paid Advertising
Paid advertising includes ads that you pay for in newspapers, magazines and on television and billboards. The cost of the ad will depend on where you choose to advertise and how many people your ad will reach. For print ads, many newspaper and magazines will help you create an ad if you don't already have one. For television spots, you'll most likely have to produce the ad yourself which will, naturally, add substantially to the cost.

Public Relations
Public relations efforts involve finding ways to get the name of your business out in front of the public without purchasing an ad. There are many ways to go about this, but one important thing you must remember is that unlike paid advertising, you have no control over what is written about your shop.

Some ideas include hosting a charity event or going for some sort of record such as largest pizza or most people fed in an hour. If a tragedy happens in your area, offer to hold a special event where a percentage of all money raised will go to help the victims.

Once you decide on a special event, send press releases as far in advance as possible. Send press releases to local news stations, newspapers and anyone else you think might be interested in covering your event. If you are unsure how to write a press release, you can have one custom written starting at around $50 on websites such as Elance.com.

Of course, there is no guarantee that the press will cover your event, but local news teams are looking for news just as much as you're looking for coverage. If your event is newsworthy, you have a great chance of scoring some coverage. Below are some more specific ideas for special events.

• Sponsor local events such as 5k runs. Your name will be displayed on signs at the event, and will be printed on any written materials, such as programs.

• Have a contest or giveaway. Giving something away is a great way to get the attention of a lot of people. Make it a funny contest and you just might get the added bonus of news coverage. For example, everyone who comes to your shop dressed as a slice of pizza gets a free slice. Again, press releases in advance are key!

• Offer a program for neighborhood children who make good grades such as a free slice for every A or B. Let the schools and the press know about your program.

Other ideas:

• See if a local movie theater or bowling alley wants to team up. You could promote each other's business by selling packages such as "movie tickets and a pizza for only $??" You would sell the packages at both locations increasing sales for each of you.

• Pick a day of the week that is typically slow and make it, for example "Two for One Tuesday." You'll want to back this up with some local advertising, but everyone likes a deal. Your slow day just might turn into your best day.

Getting your name out there is an important part of the battle. Doing so in whatever positive manner you can will only help your bottom line.

Magazine Advertising - Are You About To Throw Your Money Away?

By Tara Roitman

One of the first marketing mistakes I made was buying print ad space in about three magazines. Can I recall one sale that I achieved through those ads? Not one. I don't think that I am the first or last person to make this mistake. In general, magazine advertising does not work for a small business. Here are a few do's and don'ts to consider before you decide whether to jump in.

Don't decide to advertise because of your competitors - You think you need to advertise in a magazine because your competitors have been running ads for months or maybe even years. When the salesperson calls, they tell you "we have x number of companies signed up so it must be working for them". How many people fell for that line? Your competitors might be throwing money away on this advertising. Just because they aren't making the most of their marketing budget, doesn't mean you have to follow suit.

Don't listen to the salesperson - Remember their job is to make the sale. Your job is to make the best decision for your business.

Don't sign up for a long series of insertions - Often times, you might be told that you need at least six insertions to get really noticed by the readers of the magazine. Having a six or twelve month commitment with an ad is an expense you do not need. Ads may be good for branding but we small businesses often do not have the luxury budget for branding. We need results.

Don't lose sight of your ROI - Magazine ads can be difficult to track. Even if you use a code on the ad, you might discover that a client noticed your ad but only made contact three or four months later. The code on your ad might have expired by then or it completely slipped their minds. This makes determining the return on the ad spend very difficult to determine.

If you still want to pursue magazine advertising, do commit to a short run of insertions. Refuse to pay the full rate-card price. In fact, tell them you are only interested in last minute space. When they are desperate to fill the page with paid ads, you might pay a quarter of the rate card.

Do pay attention to your results - If the ads are not working, stop them.

Of course, this does not apply for every small business in every market. The important message is you must think very carefully about how you will track your results and whether your money might be better spent on other forms of marketing.

Capitalize On What Makes You Unique Through Postcard Mailing

By Maricar Cadavicio

You've heard all about those marketing schemes. You may even be ready to take the plunge into postcard mailing. You have the budget. You have the list of people whom you want to receive the cards. You go online and found the right printing company.

You're now faced with the biggest problem of all. What are you going to put on those cards? What words are going to fit right? What designs will represent you well to the market? And what approach is going to lure clients to try you out?

Do not drop the idea of postcard mailing just because it seems hard to do. First and foremost, look around you. Find something about your products that is not so common with any other products available in the market. List all your ideas.

Unique Selling Point
It doesn't matter whether you're new in the field or you are an established company. To be able to market your business better, you got to have a USP or your unique selling point.

You should be able to tell people what makes you stand out above the rest. You should be able to explain to them why they should choose you over your competitors.

• Cheap price
Your USP should not be solely about the price. Although it helps that you offer your products at affordable prices, your customers will not buy things because they were marketed as cheap. Every business defines cheap in a variety of ways. And the customers are already used to that word. They need products and services that are worth what they're paying for.

• Quality service
This is a good characteristic of a business but this is not unique. Your customers must be the one to judge if you are really able to give quality service once they've tried you out. So you need to get them first to go to you and avail your products.

To find out what's unique about your business, you must study your competitors. Veer away from their types of promos. Be different. You'll find your own followers in no time.

If you still can't determine your USP, you'll find that out soon. You can do this by asking clients for feedback after they have availed your products or services. You can provide a form that they can fill out or you can also ask them personally. You need to know why they chose you over your competitors. Through this, you'll be able to establish your USP as time goes by.

Samples of Unique Selling Points
The thing that you have to remember on this one is that you have to stand out. You have to attract by being different. You need to get people's attention and make them want to choose you over your competitors.

Here are some samples of USPs:

• Fastest delivery time.

• We deliver even on holidays.

• Free shipping for $100 and up purchases.

• Free software upgrade for two years.

Once you've determined your company's USP, take advantage of that and use it when you avail of postcard mailing services. Tell people directly why they should choose you. Stand out from the rest and show those customers that you are the best.

Plan For Development - And Save Your Sign!

By Frank Rolfe

In the over 300 billboard signs I have owned, only two have been lost to development. I achieved this not out of sheer luck, although I have been lucky, but by being proactive about avoiding risks and mitigating the risks I can't avoid.

In most billboard ground leases, you have to give the property owner a right to terminate in the event of development. Obviously, few people will tie up their land for years when it might sour a huge development offer down the road. As a result, your billboard is at risk of being removed at any time with so many days of advance notice.

When this is the case, there are several things you can do to reduce or eliminate this risk.

Flip It If The Land Is Hot

Anyone can see land parcels that have a huge risk of immediate development. If you see a piece of raw land between two office buildings, or a piece of raw land between a Wal-Mart and Home Depot, then you are looking development right in the eye.

Except for cases of environmental pollution or unsuitable terrain, such a relationship makes buildings a billboard a bad idea if you are hoping for longevity. Don't skip this location, just get a ground lease and permit and immediately sell it to another billboard company. You can use this capital to finance a more permanent location. In just about every case in which I predicted development, it has come to pass. Not that I'm some sort of mind-reader: it just made sense that the land was too hot not to be developed in the near future.

Add Two Provisions Quietly Into Your Ground Lease Termination Provision

Be sure that your termination provision requires a building permit requiring removal of the billboard, and that it also includes language restricting any billboard to be built on the property for a period of at least 5 years. This is to ensure that the owner does not use the development "out" to replace you with a higher paying competitor.

Build Your Billboard In Areas That Can't Be Built On

If you want to sleep soundly at night, deliberately build your billboard within the setback requirements for whatever can be built on the land. For example, if your sign is on multifamily land, and is less than 20 feet inside the property line. Most billboard setbacks are less than the building setbacks. I like to build signs right on the property line using " full-flag offset" monopole designs that make this possible. I also like to build on the edge of ravines or other obstructions that would also be impossible to build on.

Don't Give Up When You Get A Termination Letter

When you get a termination letter, which I hope you never do, the first step is to cordially request a meeting with the landowner. You still have several attempts to save the sign:

¬ Offer him more money. Sometimes, you can "greenmail" your way out of your problem. If he was getting 20% of the gross, offer to change to a 50/50 split of the net, or some other highly ulcerative option.

¬ Offer him one side of the sign for free for a certain period of time to promote his development.

¬ Ask him to allow your sign to stay until the construction is completed (this can take about a year). Sometimes, while your sign is still there, the development project crashes, and the whole problem goes away (lost financing, lost anchor tenant, etc.)

¬ Offer to sell him the sign for what you have in it to become his own premise sign for the development.

If you follow these steps you will greatly reduce or eliminate your exposure to losing your sign to development. Being proactive can save you a fortune and a lot of mental anguish, which you can put to better use building more signs.

Rolfe started his billboard empire from his coffee table, as a fresh graduate from Stanford University. It began as a resume builder for graduate school applications, and ended with a sale to a public company 14 years later.

Using unique strategies he developed from desperate competition with much larger adversaries, Rolfe eventually owned more billboard units than any private individual in Dallas/Ft. Worth. Along the way, he fine-tuned the techniques to find billboard locations, rent advertising space, and sell signs and leases. For More info please call 1-800-937-6151 or email.

What Do Customers Say About Aerial Advertising?

By Michael Arnold

The aerial advertising companies think that airplane messages are incredibly worthwhile. Advertisers might be enchanted with the novelty of having their ad flown over a busy beach or festival.

But what do consumers think? It would seem a waste for advertisers to spend a good deal of money on advertising that won't be worthwhile, that consumers won't respond to, that won't bring customers and money to the door.

Advertisers will be happy to know, then, that consumers think highly of aerial advertising. They enjoy watching the banner ads, and they remember the ads long after they are gone.

In 2004, a Miami Beach survey of 2,194 beachgoers backed this up. After seeing airplane messages in the sky, they were asked some questions about the advertising. The results were interesting and useful to potential aerial advertisers.

Other forms of advertising might be remembered for a short period of time, especially if the message is unique, but most consumers don't recall the information for very long.

So what's enlightening is that in the survey of beachgoers a stunning majority of people not only remembered the banner ads they saw, they remembered them for a long period of time.

Beachgoers were asked if they remembered the banner that passed over in the past 30 minutes. The response? 88% of them had. It's hard to imagine another advertising medium that could boast of 88% of the people remembering it 30 minutes later.

In fact, most people pay little attention to advertising, unless the message is unique or the way of communicating the message is unique (as in a duck, cavemen, or something similar). But sometimes how you present that message is what's unique (as in aerial advertising) and that's what people pay attention to. Once you have that attention, you can get your message across in a clearer way than you might think.

The advantage of airplane advertising is that it is unique. It's not like all the advertising that we see on any given day - billboards, radio ads, and newspaper and television ads. When that plane flies over, towing a banner and a message, we all look up. We pay attention. We remember.

And this statistic bears that out - 79% of the people questioned remembered what was being advertised on the airplane banner. This is 30 minutes after the banner passed over. This backs up what aerial advertising companies already know - airplane messages work. The medium is unique enough that people notice it and they remember it. An advertiser can ask for little more than that.

Finally, the best news for advertisers - 67% of those beachgoers surveyed said they remembered at least half of the message of the airplane advertising. When people remember the message, they remember the advertiser. They seek out the product or service being advertised.

The bottom line is, consumers respond to aerial advertising. They enjoy looking at it, they pay careful attention to it and (best of all) they remember it. Whether alone or combined with other forms of advertising, an advertiser's dollar goes far when used for plane advertising.

Aerial Advertising services are available from companies that specialize in this type of advertising. The Internet is a good source of information when it comes to choosing aerial advertising services. Arnold Aerial Advertising is one of the companies that provide such services. Located in New York, Arnold Aerial Advertising provides nationwide service with affordable rates.

Michael Arnold is the Director of Arnold Aerial Advertising Inc. http://www.arnoldaerial.com

They conduct all forms of Aerial Advertising: NASCAR, Indy Car, Spring Break, Concerts, Conventions, Rush Hour Traffic, Football, Baseball, State Fairs, all Beaches, Parades, Cruise Lines, etc. and produce the custom banners as well.
